Amazon Magazine Steal of the Week - Oprah

Amazon has a one year subscription to Oprah magazine for $5.00 until Saturday, 12/19. Here is the link.

Harris Teeter

You may or may not have noticed that I haven't been posting about Harris Teeter. I haven't really been finding anything worth posting about in the last few weeks. So, in the interest of saving my time and yours, I will only be posting HT matchups when there are triple coupon events or when something is just SCREAMING at me because the deal is that good. If you want to look at HT matchups yourself, there are several resources on the web - this is a good one, except please keep in mind that sale prices vary tremendously from region to region, and what you see posted on another coupon matchup site may not be the same for you. Remember my milk incident. A costly mistake!

More $5.00 Magazine Subscriptions

Amazon is at it again - from 12/06 through 12/12 selected magazines are $5.00 for a subscription or you can renew your current subscription. Click here to see what's available this time around.

Pillsbury Toaster Strudel Coupon

I have seen a Food Lion preview ad for next week and it is showing a 3-day sale on Pillsbury Toaster Strudel for 1.50 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (12/11, 12/12 and 12/13). Click here to get a 1.00 coupon, making these .50 each. Coupons for Toaster Strudel don't come around very often, and certainly not for 1.00 off. They may go quickly, so I wouldn't wait to print them. Now before you get too excited, please remember that this is an ad I saw for a different area (remember my milk fiasco) and YMMV for your area.

Hallmark $5.00 coupon

There is a Hallmark coupon for $5.00 off your total order; the coupon does not state a minimum, so you should be able to use this to get something free or nearly free. Click here for the coupon. Also you should be able to print this twice by using your browser's back button (you may want to remove the paper after the first printing and insert it back into your printer the opposite way for the second printing to save paper).

Live and Learn

I learned a valuable lesson today. Always check what sale paper you are looking at online before you make your coupon-matching list. Always. Yesterday as I was putting together the coupon-match list for Giant I included milk for 2.50. So, doing my couponing today, I bought four gallons. It wasn't until I got out into the parking lot that it occurred to me that my total was higher than it should have been. I looked at my receipt and discovered that the milk discount had not come off my club card scan. As I was on my way in to go to customer service, I decided I'd better grab an ad there at the store and peruse it first, just to be sure, in case I needed to show it to customer service. Alas, there was no milk on sale! Turns out, it's only on sale in the Rehoboth Beach, Millville and Long Neck, Delaware stores; not in my home store in which I shopped today. *Sigh* I now have four gallons of very expensive milk. At least I didn't embarrass myself by going to customer service!

Slow Week

I didn't write about any matchups or deals yet this week because, well, there really weren't any worth writing about! Food Lion's sale last week extended to 12/02, so there was nothing new there. Giant, Superfresh and Harris Teeter didn't have anything to write home about. Safeway only had an itty bitty ad with basically nothing noteworthy except ground beef for $1.47/lb which is definitely a good buy. That price is good through Tuesday, 12/01. On Wednesday 12/02 the new sale ads for Food Lion, Safeway and Harris Teeter will be out; on Friday 12/04 Giant and Superfresh ads will be available. I hope to have all the matchups for this week posted by Saturday, 12/5.

$5.00 Magazine Subscriptions

Amazon is having a great sale on magazine subscriptions until 12/01. There are 10 listed for $5.00 each here, plus there are more with $3.00, $5.00 and $10.00 off listed here. The discount will be taken off when you go to checkout, so don't be worried if you don't see it when you click on the item. I used Swagbucks to get myself a subscription to Country Living for $5.00. Merry Early Christmas to me!

Harris Teeter 11/18 - 11/26

I didn't get to Harris Teeter this week. I had reached my budgeted weekly amount at the other stores and since HT tends to be less coupon friendly, I make this my last stop if there's anything left in my allotted weekly shopping budget. Since they don't list BOGO prices in their ad and since I didn't get there this week, I am unable to list BOGO prices for you, but here are the deals I found perusing the ad. Remember, if you are shopping BOGO sales here and your coupon is x.xx/1, you can buy one item and it will ring up half price but if your coupon is x.xx/2 you will need to buy 3 items (to cover the "free" item).

Final price .23 each

Giant 11/20 - 11/26

I didn't get too much at Giant this week.

Hamburger Helper Double Pack 2.00 each (this is a pretty good price since the other stores I checked had just the single packs for 2.00)
Buy 3, use .75/3 IP
Final price 4.50 for 3 or 1.50 each (remember, this is for a double pack)

P.S. - You don't have to use it as the box says - here are some interesting recipes using Hamburger Helper.

Philadelphia Cream Cheese BOGO 2.50
Buy 4, use 1.00/3 from 11/15 RP
Final price 4.00 or 1.00 each (not great, but will make awesome cheesecake in the Keebler crusts I got at Superfresh for .23 each!)

Food Lion 11/18 - 12/01

These are the deals I got at Food Lion this week:

Del Monte Canned Vegetables
.50 each (I could only find creamed corn and french-style green beans with this sale tag - not sure if there would be more available at other stores)
1.00/8 from 11/15 RP
Final price 3.00 for 8 or .37 each

Duncan Hines Cake Mix BOGO 1.69
Buy 3, use 1.00/3 from 10/11 SS

Final price 2/3.00 or 1.50 each

Friday, November 20, 2009

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter 1.99
Use 1.00/1 IP
Final cost .99
Buy 2 and get catalina for 2.00 at checkout, essentially making this FREE
(I purchased 4 and got 2 catalinas for 2.00 each; not sure how many this would work with!)

Transaction #2 (T2):
8 6-packs of Diet Pepsi at 3.33 each which gave me the 25.00 minimum I needed to buy

I used the abovementioned (2) 2.00 catalinas to go toward the purchase price of the Pepsi and turkeys, and will be using the 5.00 catalina on my next visit to buy the hickory chips that I will use to smoke the turkey on the grill on Thanksgiving.

Harris Teeter Heads-Up

Just a short note to my fellow Harris Teeterers; if you shop at the Millsboro, Delaware Harris Teeter, you'll need to watch your couponing habits. Although they do stick to their own coupon policy, it has been my experience that some cashiers will override some things, and some will not. For instance, on one visit I was told I could not use two coupons on a Buy One Get One deal. The very next time I went back I was allowed to do this. Then today when I went I figured I would just not even try to test the waters and just do two separate transactions as everything I was buying was BOGO.

I divided my order up and told the cashier that it would be two separate transactions. She looked at me funny so I explained that I was using coupons on each transaction (which was probably a mistake). She said she wasn't sure she could do that and called the manager over. The manager has to be a drill sergeant in her off hours. She sternly told me that they were NOT supposed to do this, that they would do this ONLY ONCE, and that I was ONLY doing it to get around their coupon policy (well, duh) and NOT to do it again. Yes, sergeant manager, sir.

So, I guess the moral here is, play by the rules at this particular HT, and if you're doing BOGO transactions, for goodness' sake, PLEASE go on two separate days (or at least far enough apart in one day for there to be a shift change!)

Welcome!

Welcome to my Frugal Finds page. Here I will list deals that I think are worth sharing. I'm probably not going to be posting exhaustive lists of coupon matches, but I will try to list anything that really jumps out at me, that I just can't pass up! Check back soon, as I intend to list some matches for this week.
